Munzur Valley National Park
The Munzur
Valley National Park is the largest and the most biodiverse national park in
Turkey.
In the flora
of Munzur Valley National Park, which is very rich in terms of vegetation,
there are 1518 registered plants, 43 of which are endemic to the Munzur
Mountains and 227 to Turkey. Endemic plants found nowhere else in the Munzur
Mountains include Bellflower, Erzincan Cherry, Bindebirdelik Grass, Munzur
Partridge, Munzur Buttercup, Mountain Stream, Munzur Mountain Oltu Grass, and
Violet. It is 1.5 km away from Ovacık town and Munzur coves. Below, on both
sides of the Munzur Stream, there is a birch dwelling, the characteristic tree
of the region.
Birch, which
is one of the rare tree species in our country, makes a significant
contribution to the flora of the region by forming a beautiful trunk at the
water’s edge in this region. The dominant tree species in the National Park are
oak and various species. The non-rocky hills and slopes are covered with oak
forests. There is a rich vegetation consisting of elm, maple, alder, ash, plane
tree, vine, birch, walnut, wild hazelnut, poplar, willow and shrub species on
the valley floor and along the waters. The lower flora is rich in areas with
oak groves. The steep and steep slopes of the mountains are completely bare.
