Erdemli Valley
Located west of the Niğde-Kayseri road, Erdemli is 4 kilometers north of Yeşilhisar and 65 kilometers from Kayseri. Erdemli Valley, located within the borders of Erdemli Village in Yeşilhisar district of Kayseri, is a canyon-shaped valley formed as a result of the erosion of the lava erupted by Mount Erciyes while it was an active volcano. The distance to Kayseri city center is 69 kilometers. Located in Erdemli Village, Erdemli Valley has monasteries, churches and rock places in a dazzling nature. The approximate length of the Erdemli Valley is 10 kilometers. There are eleven churches with wall paintings in the settlement area along the Edemli Valley. These churches are; Church Mosque, H. Eustathios Church, H. Nikolaos Church and Chapel, Mikhael Church, Twelve Apostles Church, Forty Martyrs Church, Single Nave Church, Palace Monastery Church and Bear Church. The wall paintings depict scenes from the Bible and the Torah. In addition to some floral and geometric decorations, single figures such as saints, saints, martyrs, bishops, angels and apostles were also depicted. The buildings can be dated between the 10th and 13th centuries according to the stylistic, iconographic and distribution characteristics of the wall paintings along with the architecture.
