Karacehennem Boğazı Canyon

Karacehennem Gorge Canyon Ersizlerdere Canyon is a canyon formed by the Küre Stream on the Küre Mountains, in the Küre district of Kastamonu province. The Küre Mountains, where the canyon is located, extend for 250 km parallel to the Black Sea. The Black Sea climate prevails in the area. The Küre Mountains National Park on the mountains has the appearance of a karst plateau. Jurassic-Cretaceous aged limestones belonging to the Mesozoic period are effective in shaping the area. The limestones were shattered by the Küre Stream, a tributary of the Zarbana Stream, which has a strong flow due to heavy rainfall. A canyon with a length of 3 km was formed in the NW-SE direction. The slopes of the canyon valley are approximately 80° inclined and symmetrical.
