Bazda Caves
On the 15th and 16th km of the Harran, Khan el-Ba'rür, Shuayb Ancient City, Sogmatar tourism road, there are historical quarries in the mountains to the left and right of the road. Two quarries called “Bazda”, “Albazdu”, “Elbazde” or “Bozdağ Caves” in the village on the right of the road at km 16 are worth seeing. As a result of hundreds of years of quarrying stones for the buildings of Harran, the city of Shu'ayp and Khan al-Ba'rur in the vicinity, many squares, tunnels and galleries were formed in both caves. The largest of these, in particular, was carved in two stories in places, and squares were created in the middle by leaving feet up to 10-15 meters high. In addition, long galleries and tunnels provided exits to various directions of the mountain.
The exterior facades of the mountain, which spreads over a very large area, have large cavities due to stone cutting. It is understood from the Arabic inscriptions written on the rocks that certain parts of this historical quarry, which is perhaps the largest and most mysterious in Anatolia and worth visiting, were operated by people such as “Abdurrahman al-Hakkâri”, “Muhammad Ibn-i Bakır”, “Muhammad al-'Uzzar” in the 13th century.
