Yaz Konagi Cave
Yazkonagi cave, which is located 4 km away from the town center of Ünye, within the borders of Karagöl neighborhood in the south of Ünye district, consists of two interconnected caves and several branches of these caves. The cave, which is located at the lower levels of the Pliocene erosion surface and forms a part of this groundwater system, was developed along an east-west oriented vertical fault within the Late Cretaceous-Paleocene aged limestone, sandy limestone, sandstone and clay stones. The entrance of Yazkonagi Cave is 85 m above sea level and 30 m above the valley floor. The total length of the cave is 900 meters. Yazkonagi Cave is divided into two parts according to the entrance point. The main gallery of Yazkonagi Cave is a very narrow and high-ceilinged gallery extending first to the south and then to the west from the entrance. The second gallery extending first to the northwest and then to the west from the entrance is in a better position in terms of both dripstone and width in contrast to the main gallery. There are two waterfalls flowing from a height of almost 25 meters inside the cave. The stalactite stalagmites and domed rooms, which are quite rare, attract the attention of the visitors.
