Zeytintaşı Cave
Zeytintaşı Cave is a karst cave located on the borders of Akbaş Village, Serik district, Antalya province.
The cave is surrounded by impermeable layers on its sides and bottom. It was developed on the Jurassic-Crataceous limestone rocks in the direction of the fault line. The 136 m long upper level of the double storey cave was opened to tourism in 2002; the lower level is 97 m long.
It consists of a single gallery and is divided into halls and chambers by columns. The cave partially completed its formation and has a semi-active fossil character. The macaroni stalactites of the size of a spaghetti stick (0.03 m wide, 0.70 m long) are the characteristic elements of the cave. Discovered in 1997 during quarrying works, the cave has a hot and humid atmosphere. The average temperature is 23 °C and the relative humidity is 70%. There are cave needles, stalactites, stalagmites, columns, stalagmites, cover dripstones, dripstone pools and ponds between the columns. The hall with pasta stalactites, whose development continues today, is called the Spaghetti Hall.
The lower level of the cave has a ceiling height of 0.5-7 m and a width of 0.5-8 m. This level, which is 12 m lower than the upper level, has not been opened to visitors in order to protect it from destruction.
