Adem Sönmez Art Gallery
Adem Sönmez summarizes his artistic life with these words: "I started photography as a hobby in Muş, where I started my business life as an electronics engineer in 1973. Even though I had the camera of my dreams in 1975, a few interesting photos I took inspired me, even though I wasn't very conscious of it.
It was a turning point for me when I met the late great master Mehmet Avcıdırlar, who stopped by Muş on a trip to the East for photo shoots in 1981. Participating in their 15-day trip was very helpful about the basics of taking photographs, I now understood the importance of observing life and the environment with a photographic eye, and I got the style I love...
I have opened many solo exhibitions, participated in group exhibitions and made slide shows until today. Many of my photos have been published in the media and have been on the cover of books. I have received many awards in national and international photography competitions that I participated in.
Besides photography, I worked as a program consultant for the documentaries "FIRATIN TURKUS" and "ANATOLIAN DREAMS" produced by TRT. I was the art director of the feature-length feature film "Wedding", which was screened at the 1992 Berlin film festival.
I still live in Muş and I continue to take photographs with the awareness of paying my debt to the geography I live in.” Everyone who comes to Muş should visit the art gallery created by Adem Sönmez with great effort.
