Ankara CerModern

CerModern; It is an art gallery located in Altındağ district of Ankara. It is built on a complex that emerged as a result of the restoration of a historical building, which served as a train maintenance workshop for many years, by Turkish architects Semra and Özcan Uygun. It is possible to reach the gallery, located within the borders of Hacı Bayram District, by using EGO buses and Ankara Metro line number M4. The building complex, which is used today as CerModern, consists of buildings belonging to "Cer Workshops", which were built in the early Republican period and were used in the repair of train wagons. The workshops, which were operated by the State Railways of the Republic of Turkey for a while, remained idle until the 1990s. In 1992, the Uygur Architecture team won the national project competition initiated to build a new concert hall for the Presidential Symphony Orchestra; He started working on the realization of the structure known today as CSO Ada Ankara. However, the project area also included the area where the workshop buildings were located, and the demolition of this building group was initially on the agenda. At the same time, two of these structures were severely damaged during the rail renewal works carried out in the background of Ankara Train Station. Thereupon, Semra and Özcan Uygur, one of the architects of the project, decided to restore the third surviving workshop building and turn it into an art museum. The restoration works, which started in 2008, were completed in 2010 and CerModern was opened in April of the same year; It began to serve as an event venue where exhibitions, conferences, stage performances and festivals were held.
