Artvin Ehram Weaving
Wool Preparation: The wool used in this weaving must be lamb's wool. Lamb's wool is preferred because it is fine. Experiments have shown that ehrams woven from sheep's wool do not give this elegance. After the wool is washed and dried, it is combed in a wool combing comb. It is spun very finely with a spindle and spun into yarn. The spun threads are twisted with a tool called a spinning wheel to make them stronger. They are stretched to the length of the length of the ehram and taken to the card (küji). It is then woven on looms called "kuy", either plain or patterned.
Usage: It was woven in Yusufeli District of Artvin. Although it was woven long ago, today there are one or two pieces in the chests of women in the forty-fifty age group. It is known as "Hanımeliçar" and "red edge" in the region. Since it is generally used by women as a veil on special occasions, the beauty of the veil provides a status and dignity to the person who wears it, which makes the workmanship more careful.
