Baldız Rug
Rugs are thin, hairless, fine weavings, generally colored and patterned, prepared to be laid on the floor of rooms and tents or to be used as sofa and ottoman covers. Like carpets, rugs are woven on looms and are also used as saddlebags, sacks and prayer rugs by giving them special shapes as well as for home furnishings. In terms of weaving technique, these rugs are a continuation of Ottoman palace rugs. Tapestry technique was applied in both groups of rugs.
While weaving the Bardız rug, the weft threads are often kirked to place them well between the warp threads. For this reason, the rug weaving is dense and smooth. The floral motifs in Ottoman palace art are used in Bardız rugs as in palace rugs. The ground colors of the rugs are usually black, as in Ottoman palace rugs. However, red or burgundy, blue, natural beige, natural gray colors are used to a lesser extent. Since the rug patterns are composed of natural and stylized floral motifs and animal motifs, multiple shades of colors are used. Root dye is used in original Bardız rugs. Animal figures, floral and symbolic motifs are preferred in the rugs.
