Bursa Towel

Towels in Bursa started to be woven on hand looms from the beginning of the 18th century. The weaving methods of Bursa towels were taken from Bursa velvets, which were woven in Ottoman and world palaces in the 15th century. Jacquard, embroidered and tasseled towels woven on traditional looms vary according to their usage areas. There are varieties such as bath towels, hand towels and head towels, as well as embroidered or plain tassels without tassels as a gift for daily use and special occasions, wedding and bridal baths. In Bursa, in the Grand Bazaar and Hanlar region, only towels and bath materials are sold in the towel shops, besides the towels woven with traditional methods, towels designed and woven in factories are sold. Bursa, where the Towel Cooperative was established in 1941 and modern towel weaving facilities were established, has an important place in world towel production today.
