Cas Houses

The cas houses, named after the special mortar produced as a result of burning, grinding and processing a kind of limestone material found in the region, are generally two or three storeys, narrowing upwards, in the form of cut square prisms, with flat terrace roofs. The construction technique was basically developed by utilizing the fast hardening property of cas mortar. The interior spaces of the cas houses, which are said to have been built using soil, water and sun, are built with the principle of raising the walls and closing the upper opening in the form of a vault with rubble stones processed by attaching with mortar without using molds and without shaping.
