Cullaz Street
Traditional Niğde houses are located on Cullaz Street in the center of Niğde province. Located in Songur Neighborhood, this group of buildings reflects the traditional Turkish house characteristics in the city of Niğde in detail. The walls, which are the main load-bearing elements of the buildings, are generally constructed of fine, coarse and rubble stone, and mortar consisting of a mixture of sand and lime is generally used in masonry. Wooden beams were used on the walls in general. The massiveness of the walls was tried to be eliminated with various number of windows. In the covering system, the wooden ceiling technique is generally used either directly on the walls, with the help of pointed arches, stone or marble and wooden columns. They have ground + 1 storey and are concentrated in the middle of the street or at the corners. Their entrances are usually with double winged wooden doors. Entrance to the floor is provided from the wooden door. Double or single stone steps across the partition lead to the wooden balcony on the first floor. The balcony leads to the courtyard and the courtyard leads to the rooms. The ground and first floors are illuminated with windows proportional to each other. There is usually a garden belonging to the building and the garden entrance gates are monumental. While most of the buildings have flat roofs, the majority of them are covered with hipped roofs. While most of them had their original features at the time, they have been dilapidated due to lack of maintenance over time.
