Damal Baby

It is a kind of local folkloric doll in Damal District of Ardahan. Damal District and its region, which won the world championship in the "Local Folkloric Dolls Competition" held in Japan, is a residential area located on the transit route of the Turkish tribes immigrating from Central Asia to Europe. The local people are "Turkmen" and have preserved their traditions and customs until today. One of the most important features of this place is that the women living in the region use the clothes of the Central Asian Oghuz Turks. These clothes are; It consists of three skirts, apron, shirt, shalwar, vest, pocket, breastplate, torch, fez, taupe and armrest. These clothes, which are still used today, vary according to the age, social status and economic power of the wearer. For example, old women and widows wear the chestpiece, which is a part of this outfit, made of dark fabric, and the younger women wear the one made entirely of beads. The headdress worn by young women, brides, married women, women with children, widows, women whose sons went to the military and grandmothers has different characteristics. The newlywed woman wears at least five gowns, three skirts and a vest together. In the past, local women used to make toys for their children by dressing the little ones of these clothes on wooden dolls. Today, these clothes are dressed on plastic dolls and sold to enthusiasts. These garments are made by embroidering beads on fabric cloths with a good workmanship and handiwork.
