Kemençe

The kemençe is a small three-stringed instrument, approximately 50-60 cm long, similar to the violin, played with the left hand held in the air, very common in the Black Sea Region of Turkey. It produces sound by rubbing the bow on the strings. The left string gives high tones and is called cymbal, the right string gives deep sounds and is called deaf. The kemençe is the most suitable instrument for the nature of the Black Sea and the horon with its lightness, being suitable to be played while standing and walking, and with its lithe tunes.
