Meerschaum (Lüle Taşı)
Meerschaum is a rock formed as a result of the hydration of magnesium and silicon-based main rock fragments within the metamorphic layers at various depths of the ground, by hydrothermal effects. It was named sepiolite in the mid-19th century by a German mineralogist (E. F. Glocker) who noticed this rock. The name sepiolite is given after the Greek name for the cuttlefish 'sepion'. The German name of this mineral, 'Meerschaum' (sea foam), is also referring to the density of the mineral.
