Needle Lace
One of the most important traditional handicrafts carried out in the Ankara region today is the art of needlework. It is accepted as "Turkish lace" in western languages and dates back to BC. The needlework art, which has been understood to be a handicraft specific to the people of Central Anatolia since 2000, has been preserved as the oldest and most common handicraft in Ankara, especially in Ayaş and its region. Needle, awl, shuttle, etc. of twisted or null yarns of various thicknesses prepared with natural or synthetic fibers. Handicrafts created by knitting with tools are called "oya". Embroidery, which is used as an ornamental element on the edges of handkerchiefs, writing, headscarves and various covers, is developed by preserving the traditional production style in Ayaş and its surroundings, but by creating new examples with contemporary materials and techniques, and contributes to the family economy.
