Sivas Knife

According to the information in the Sharia Records kept during the Mahmud II Period (1808-1839), pocketknifes and knives were made in the Kılıçcılar Bazaar, located opposite the door at the north entrance of the Subaşı Inn. The swords made in the Swordsmen's Bazaar became obsolete as the weapons changed over time, and swordsmen turned to making pocket knives and knives. Sivas's black bone-handled knives are famous. Ox, goat and ram horns are used for knife handles. Horn has become the characteristic material of Sivas cutlery, as it is easy to find and cheap, as well as being robust and workable.Generally, sword type knives, bond knives, bread knives and one-two-bladed or razor-type knives are made. The "barrel" cutting metal steel part, which is made ready after various stages, is attached to the handle made of animal horn. The quality of Sivas Knives is among the top three in Turkey. However, the knives made are generally planned for daily use. By reviewing our knife quality from a touristic point of view, it can be brought to tourism by combining it with silver processing, which is of great importance in Sivas, by producing and marketing silver inlaid knives in the form of hunting knives or daggers. It can make a greater economic contribution to our region.
