Jug making, which is one of the oldest among the Turkish handicrafts that became widespread in Anatolia, had become a highly developed profession in the past, especially in the Ayaş region. Since the jugs, which are produced from red soil and filled with water or other beverages in the hearths in the so-called jug karhanesi, are baked in the fire, they have the feature of keeping the water put in them cool, since they remain somewhat porous and slightly leak water. This line of business continues today in workshops in Ayaş and Şereflikoçhisar.
