Tokat Coppersmith Art

In the Tokat Court Registers, it is stated that in 1828, there were 33 coppersmiths, 55 boilermakers, 7 casters and 14 tinsmiths in the city. In the first half of the 19th century, about 1000 workers were working in the copper processing furnaces called "kalhane" in Tokat, and around 1000 tons of copper were produced annually. It is no longer possible to see the workshops in Tokat, which are highly praised by travelers and researchers. A few coppersmiths and profiteers' shops, which moved to the city's industrial bazaar, continue the old tradition of coppersmithing. The pitcher, hamam, copper and cauldrons made by Tokat coppersmiths are still widely used in this region.
