Afşin
Afşin is a district of Kahramanmaraş province. Efsus, which came under the rule of the Ottoman Empire in 1572, became the district center in 1944 with the law numbered 4642 on 02.08.1944 and took the name Afşin. The population of the district, including the center, towns and villages, is 80,980 according to 2020 TUIK data. Afşin-Elbistan Thermal Power Plant, Turkey's largest thermal power plant complex, is located in the town of Afşin, Çolhan. This power plant is within the borders of Afşin district. However, the basins where the coals operated in the power plant are located are within the borders of Elbistan district.
It is claimed that the Eshab-l Kehf (Ashab-ı Kehf) cave, also known as the Seven Sleepers, is in the district.
Aşık Mahzuni Şerif (Şerif Çırık), Aşık Yener (Hacı Yener), Aşık Mahsudi (Osman Dağlı) Aşık Erfani (Serkan Açıkgöz) and poet Hayati Vasfi Taşyürek, one of Turkey's most important poets, were born in this district.
