Ahlat

Ahlat is a town in the province of Bitlis with a population of 42,131 in the northwest of Lake Van. It is bordered by Bulanık and Malazgirt districts of Muş province to the north, Muş province to the west, Lake Van to the south, Tatvan and Bitlis to the southwest, and Lake Van and Adilcevaz to the east. The Urartians, the oldest inhabitants of the city, called it "Halads", while the Turks and Iranians called it "Ahlat", the Kurds "Xelat", the Armenians "Şaleat", the Assyrians "Kelath" and the Arabs "Hil'at".
