Altınyayla

Altınyayla is a district of Sivas province. It is understood from the idioms in Ottoman Turkish that the district of Altınyayla was founded 6 centuries ago, and that its former name was Tonus and Tonus kariyesi (village).

Altınyayla, formerly known as Tonus, has been one of the settlement centers of civilizations such as Hittite, Roman, Seljuk and Ottoman, who established civilizations in Anatolia from the first ages of its history to this day. It is known that during the Ottoman Empire and in 1882, Sivas province consisted of 4 sanjaks, 26 districts and 247 sub-districts, of which the central sanjak was Sivas, and Pınarbaşı, Koçgirli, Zara, Divriği, Hafik, Gürün, Yıldızeli and Tonus were among the central sanjak of Sivas province. In this period, Tonus (Altınyayla), which was organized as a sanjak affiliated to Sivas governorship, became an important accommodation place. While it continues to operate as a sub-district affiliated to the Şarkışla District, the name of Tonus was changed to Altınyayla during the name change of the settlements throughout the country in 1972.

Altınyayla, whose municipality organization was established in 1972, gained the status of a district in 1990 with the law numbered 3644.
