Altunhisar
Altunhisar is a district of Niğde province. Towns and villages were generally founded by Turkmen nomads. In recent years, a great development has started in the district with the construction of TOKİ residences, the Intercity bus terminal and the Education Center for the Disabled. The road connecting Niğde to Aksaray and Ankara passes through Altunhisar and this road was converted into a double road in 2011. Altunhisar, located in the west of Niğde, has important agricultural areas. The district is within the borders of the Cappadocia region. Its former name is known as Ortaköy. In 1500-1300 BC, the name of the region was mentioned as Andugı. It was named Ortaköy during the Ottoman period. Altunhisar is mentioned in Evliya Çelebi's Travel Book. In 2010, an asphalt road connecting these districts was built between Çiftlik district and Altunhisar district. When you turn right, 1 km ahead of the exit of this road from Altunhisar, there are Bayatönü Rockevi Settlements, which were created by carving magnificent rocks and go back to before Christ. It is neglected, but the 3-storey cave houses are worth seeing. In 2005-2006, 500 hectares of forest was established on the highland road part of Altunhisar by the Ministry of Forestry, and after the newly planted saplings are grown, changes in the Altunhisar climate are expected.
