Antakya
Antakya (Arabic: انطاكيّة, Anṭākye; Greek: Ἀντιόχεια, Antiohia) is the largest district and center of Hatay province in terms of population. With the new arrangement, it was divided into Antakya and Defne Municipality. The Orontes River runs through its middle. It is one of the important holy places of Christianity. According to historical sources, Antakya was founded around 300 BC by Seleucus Nicator, one of the commanders of Alexander the Great. According to ancient sources, Antakya was the third largest city of the Roman Empire and the fourth largest city in the world with a population of three hundred thousand. The city that his father Antiochus founded with the name 'Antiocheia' was located at the foot of the Silpius Mountain (today's Habib Neccar Mountain) and on the side of the Orontes River. A large number of Antiocheia were established in the lands that came under the rule of Acus, other than Antakya.
