Its distance from the city center is 45 km. It constitutes the most extreme point of Iğdır and also Turkey. December was liberated from the Russian occupation on November 14, 1920, and while it was one of the sub-district centers of the Iğdır district with the name "Başköy" until April 1, 1960, it was turned into a "district" administrative unit on this date and connected to the province of Kars. It has 22 villages.

The district of December constitutes the easternmost point of Iğdır and Turkey. It is the only junction point where Turkey has neighboring and common borders with three countries. Iran is located in the east of the district with its 49 km border. In the north, there is the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic of Azerbaijan with a border of 10 km and Armenia with a border of 56 km. It is surrounded by the province of Iğdır in the west, the Great and Little Ararat Mountains and the town of Doğubayazıt in the south.

Except for a few hamlets, there is no village without electricity and telephone, and there is sufficient drinking water in the center. In the district, there are no cultural events such as theatre, cinema, fairs, fairs, other than the annual Nowruz celebrations.
