Arsuz

Arsuz is a district of Hatay province. It is located between the Amanos Mountains and the Mediterranean coast. As of 2020, it has a population of 97,217 people. The district center, which consists of Uluçınar and Gökmeydan neighborhoods, is connected to 25 villages, all of which are located in mountainous and rural areas. The economic situation of the district is based on agriculture, animal husbandry, tourism and fishing. Arsuz is the 4th largest district of Hatay in terms of surface area. Arsuz district, throughout its history; It took the names Rhosus, Rhopolis, Port Panel, Kabev, Arsous and its current name Arsuz. The first settlement in Arsuz dates back to ancient times. However, its known history begins with the Seleucids. Arsuz, M.O. Seleukos I. Nikator, one of the generals of Alexander the Great, King of Macedonia in 300 BC. Rome in 64 AD. In 638, the Arabs, A.D. In 969, it came under the rule of the Byzantines and in 1268, the Mamluks. Arsuz was a very important port and settlement in the Byzantine and Roman periods. A historical part of these periods is present today and is located in the military zone. With the merger of Uluçınar and Arpaciftlik villages on 30 December 1994, it took the status of municipality and turned into a town. While Arsuz was a town of Iskenderun, it became a district with the law numbered 6360 on 12 November 2012.
