Ayrancı

Ayrancı is a district of Karaman Province.

It is known that Ayrancı, whose situation in the first ages is unknown, remained under the rule of the Hittite State. Later, after the collapse of the Hittite State in 1200 BC by the Phrygians from the west, it remained under the rule of the Tuvana Kingdom until 323 BC. With the collapse of the Tuvana Kingdom, it was dominated by Alexander the Great first and then by the Romans, Byzantines, Seljuk Dynasty and Ottomans. The majority of the people are Avşar Turkmens. In 1903, with the settlement of Crimean Turks and Yoruks, a village called Osmaniye was established. Ayrancı, which took its current form after different phases, is now a district where the Ereğli-Karaman highway passes through the middle and is trying to develop.

It is 38 km from Konya Eregli and 44 km from Karaman centre. Obruk leather cheese is famous for its sheep yoghurt and white cherry, as well as the "Tokaloğlu" apricot grown in Böğecik village. It is one of the driest geographical areas of Turkey. The source of livelihood is agriculture and animal husbandry. Major villages are: Kıraman, Buğdaylı, Açboğaz, Hüyükburun, Üçharman (Divle), Sarayköy, Dokuzyol, Karaağaç, Kaleköy, Çatköyü, Akpınar, Melikli, Sarayköy, Ambar, Böğecik, Berendi, Kavaközü and Büyükkoraş.

The village of Ağboğaz was used as an important recreation area and hunting ground, especially during the Tuvana Kingdom. A small palace where the Tuvana King, who went hunting at that time, stayed, was built in the area known as "Saraycık Plateau" today, and it was named "Saraycık" from here. Later, it came to be said as Saracik among the people. Although it was burned and destroyed during the ancient Romans, there are few remains. Sheep yoghurt made from the milk of sheep grazing in the highland areas due to the nature of the vegetation in the mountains is a sought-after taste. It is 16 km from Ayrancı district center.
