Beylikdüzü

Beylikdüzü is one of the western districts of Istanbul province. There is the Marmara Sea in the south, Avcılar in the east, Büyükçekmece in the west, and Esenyurt districts in the north. Its surface area is 36 km². Beylikdüzü from the coast is one of the districts of Istanbul with very low slum construction. According to the research conducted by the municipality in the district, which hosts mass housing projects and luxury sites, more than 40% of the residents are university graduates. Beylikdüzü is one of the most cosmopolitan districts of Istanbul, this feature is like a mosaic of Turkey and a considerable number of foreign nationals also reside in the district. Beylikdüzü district is at the standard of a European city with its green areas exceeding 10M² per person. There are trees at symmetrical intervals in almost every street and avenue of Beylikdüzü district. Beylikdüzü represents the planned urbanized new face of Istanbul with its wide streets, boulevards, sidewalks and green areas. Beylikdüzü continues to become greener. In the area between Cumhuriyet District and Adnan Kahveci District, there is a green area called Beylikdüzü Yaşam Vadisi and this area extends to the coast. At the same time, this valley has the distinction of being the first Valley of Life in Istanbul. Istanbul Fisheries Market, located in Kumkapı, was moved to the Gürpınar coast of Beylikdüzü district. It is assumed that the founders of Beylikdüzü, where the first settlement began in the 7th century BC, were the Hellenes. Beylikdüzü, one of the popular towns of Büyükçekmece, which came under Byzantine rule in the 2nd century BC, was annexed to the Ottoman Empire after the conquest of Istanbul. Since Beylikdüzü was the accommodation place of the armies during the Byzantine and Ottoman periods, there was no dense settlement in the region. Its name in the pre-Republic period was "Garden", meaning garden. During the Republican period, it was named "Kavaklı" due to the density of poplar trees that easily adapted to the natural climate of the village, and this name was used until January 2003. With the decision numbered 93/42.466 of the Ministry of Internal Affairs published in the Official Gazette dated 01.12.1993 and numbered 21.775, Kavaklı became a town municipality affiliated with Büyükçekmece. It became a district with the name "Beylikdüzü" within the framework of the "Law on the Establishment of Districts within the Borders of the Metropolitan Municipality and Amendments to Certain Laws" published in the Official Gazette No. 26824 dated 22 March 2008.
