The district was founded by the Dulkadirli Turkmens, that is, the Boğazlıyanoğulları Oymağı, which is among the Bozoks, which is mentioned in the works of Faruk Sümer, one of the most important historians of Turkey. The name of the district comes from here. As a matter of fact, Boğazlıyanoğulları are still continuing their existence today. Over time, other Bozok Turkmens came to Boğazlıyan and settled, and the district became an important settlement center in the region. Since the Bozoks, who make up the Turkmens of Dulkadir, are mostly from the Bayat tribe of the Oghuzes, we can think that the district is also descended from the Bayats. After the Battle of Ankara in 1402, the Black Tatars in Central Anatolia were taken back to Central Asia by Timur and the Bozoks settled in these vacated places. The name Bozok Plateau comes from here.
