Çankırı City Center
Çankırı is the central district of Çankırı province. Çankırı is the center of the province of the same name located in the Central Anatolia Region of Turkey. The name of Çankırı was written as "Çankırı" or "Çengiri" by some Western travelers. The city was founded on the site of the old city called Gangra. It was previously attached to Paphlagonia. Then it was connected to the Pontus state and then to Galatia. Deiotarus, ruler of Galatia, made Gangra his center. The region, which joined the territory of the Roman Empire in 25 BC, was a place of exile during the Byzantine period. The city of Germanikopolis, which is mentioned in some sources, is thought to be Gangra. Although the Islamic armies attacked several times during the time of the Umayyads, they could not capture this castle.
