Çekerek

Çekerek; It is a town in the northeast of Yozgat province, 90 kilometers from the city center.

While Çekerek was a central village under the name of Hacıköy in the past, it was a part of Zile district of Tokat province. When the district center was transferred to Kadışehir in 1924-1925, Hacıköy was also attached to this district. The district center was transferred from Kadışehri to Hacıköy a year later. However, when Sorgun became a district later on, Hacıköy remained as a village connected to this district. Hacıköy became a sub-district of Sorgun in 1928 and maintained its status until 1944. In October 1944, Hacıköy sub-district became the district center by giving the name of Çekerek River. The district municipality was also established on the same date. Kadısehri and Mamure -with its new name "Aydıncık" sub-districts of Sorgun district were also connected to Çekerek district. With the law dated 20.05.1990 and numbered 3644, 105 villages belonging to Çekerek district, Aydıncık with 32 villages and Kadışehri with 33 villages were separated from the district and became two new districts. This situation had a negative impact on Çekerek. Currently, there are 40 villages and 4 towns in the district of Çekerek.
