Çorum City Center

Çorum is the city center of Çorum province in the Inner Central Black Sea Region and the central district with the same name. As of 2020, it has a population of 299,315 people. The local people are Turkmen. Soil industry and machinery manufacturing industry are very developed. It is located in the interior of the Central Black Sea Region. The Paleolithic Age revealed that there were human settlements in the Çorum region during the 4th phase of the Chalcolithic period in the Neolithic Age. Artifacts from this period were also found in the mounds of Alacahöyük, Büyük Güllücek, Boğazköy, Eskiyapar and Kuşsaray. The settlements have continued since this period. Çorum and its surroundings later came under the rule of Hittites, Phrygians, Cimmerians, Medes, Persians, Galatians, Romans, Byzantines, Seljuks, Danishmends, Mongols, Eretna Principality, Kadı Burhaneddin Ahmed State and finally Ottoman. There is also Kaplıkaya Rock Tomb in Laçin district.
