Çukurca
Çukurca is a district of Hakkari Province. Çukurca is known as one of the first settlements of the Urartian civilization. The Abbasids ruled this small settlement with the religious and political military chieftainship called "mir". During the Seljuk Dynasty, the district was connected to the Imadiye Principality. After the Seljuks, it was subject to the Hakkari Principality during the Ottoman period. During the First World War, the Russians and Nestorians destroyed Çukurca. Çukurca, which gained importance with the Mosul problem, was included in the territory of Turkey with the Ankara Agreement in 1926. It was made a district in 1953 with the law numbered 6068. Since Çukurca is close to the Turkey-Iraq border, it is frequently the scene of attacks and clashes.
