Eleşkirt
The name Eleşkirt is referred to as Alaşkert (Ալաշկերտ) in ancient Armenian sources. However, Armenian sources generally use it for the village of Toprakkale, which was the district center of that period. Because this is the settlement that had an Urartian castle and was surrounded by walls in history. In Ottoman sources, for example, Şemseddin Sami's Kamus-ül' Alam mentions the district center as Aleşkerd (آلشكرد). On the other hand, there are Meskhetian Turks and Azeri estates living in the region. The Kurds call the entire district, which includes the district center and the Zêtka plain, as Elajgir.
