Erdemli
Erdemli is a district of Mersin Province. The entrances and exits of the district are covered with pine trees.
The area of the district is 207,800 hectares, the agricultural area is 53,491 hectares, the forest and heath areas are 56,406 hectares, and the non-agricultural land is 97,903 hectares. The population of the district is approximately 152.000 according to the 2022 census.
History
After the proclamation of the Republic of Turkey, it was a small settlement, but became a district on June 1, 1954. It has an important development potential in terms of tourism, historical riches and natural beauties. The first mayor of Erdemli was Abdurrahman Şevk (KOCAREİS). He served the people of Erdem for about 20 years.
Geographical Structure
It is surrounded by Mersin in the east, Silifke in the west, Karaman province in the north and the Mediterranean Sea in the south. It is on Mersin - Antalya Highway and 35 km from Mersin. The fact that the center of the district is located on the Mersin - Antalya road facilitates transportation and transportation. The road leading from the district to Elvanlı and Güzeloluk subdistricts is asphalt. All the villages of the district are connected to each other or to the main roads by means of all kinds of vehicles.
The distance from the town center to Mersin is 35 km, to Silifke 47 km, to Tömük 13 km, to Güzeloluk 40 km, to Sorgun Plateau 52 km and to Toros Village 60 km. The main pond in the district is Karakız Pond.
Its area is 2863 km².
Climate
The plain part of the district is under the influence of the warm and temperate subtropical climate. The summers are hot and extremely humid, and the winters are quite warm and rainy. The high mountain region is cool and rainy in summer, and snowy and cold in winter.
The hottest months of the district are July and August (around 28 degrees on average), the coldest months are January and February (average 15.5 degrees), and the annual average temperature is around 20, 23 degrees. Precipitation occurs mostly in winter and spring seasons. (average precipitation, 1480 mm)
