Although the main livelihood of the district is based on agriculture, after the province was included in the priority regions for development, new factories were opened in many areas, contributing to employment. Transportation to the center of Düzce is done by minibuses. Gümüşova district was conquered by Osman Bey's comrade Konuralp Gazi together with Düzce and Üskübü in 1321. This region has been used as a settlement since the period of Fatih Sultan Mehmet. Later, this region was given to Davut Pasha, who showed great military benefits, as a "timar" by Fatih Sultan Mehmet. It was named as Barracks because the barns for the animals in the Ottoman Empire army were built in Gümüşova. During the First World War, the Barracks was occupied. The Düzce Revolts, which took place during the National Struggle, had an intense effect in this region. Later, these rebellions were prevented by Ali Fuat Cebesoy and Marshal Fevzi Çakmak. The barracks gained the title of township in 1927. The municipal organization was established in 1963. Barracks merged with Cumayeri in 1987 and took the name of Cumaova district. It was separated from Cumayeri in 1991 and became a new and independent district under the name of Gümüşova. Gümüşova was connected to Düzce in December 1999 as Düzce became a province.
