Gürpınar

Our Gürpınar district, which has been the scene of many civilizations, was taken from the Safavids in 1514 after the Battle of Çaldıran by Yavuz Sultan Selim, was saved from the Russian and Armenian occupation that started in 1914, on April 1, 1918, and joined the homeland again, and became a district in 1936. It is surrounded by Başkale in the east, Gevaş in the west, Van Province center and Özalp District in the north, and Hakkari Province in the south. It is the largest district of Turkey in terms of geographical area with a surface area of 4,063 km2, at a distance of 22 km from the city center. It is larger in area than Kocaeli and Rize provinces.
