Hassa

Hassa is a district of Hatay Province. Its population is 57,361 people. It is located on the east-facing foothills of the Amanos Mountains, on the provincial border of Hatay-Gaziantep. The district of Hassa was established when İbrahim Derviş Pasha, who was the commander of the Ottoman Fırka-i Islahiye units, was sent to the region after the rebellion of the "Ulaşlı" tribe living in the Amanos Mountains in 1864-1865, suppressed the rebellion and stayed in the region. The district, which was occupied by the French during the First World War, was evacuated by the French troops on January 5, 1922, with the Ankara Agreement of 20 October 1921. While Hassa was a sub-district of the Islahiye district of Gaziantep province until the annexation of Hatay to Turkey, it became a district affiliated to it with the annexation of Hatay to the territory of the Republic of Turkey in 1939.
