Hayrat, which is connected to Trabzon province, became a district in 1991 and was separated from Of district in 1992 by creating many units. While analyzing the history of Hayrat, it should be handled in integrity with the history of Of because it has just separated from Of and become a district. Although it is written in some local publications that Of was one of the cities founded by sailors from Mythos and was independent until it entered the borders of Pontus Kingdom in 312 BC, there is no document or source that confirms this. The oldest source about the region is Herodotus History.
