Hizan

Hizan is a district of Bitlis province. The first settlements in the region started with the Urartians in 1000 BC. Later, it remained under the rule of Persian, Roman, Byzantine and Arab states; It was included in the borders of the Seljuks in the 11th century and the Ottomans in the early 16th century. Hizan was made a district in 1936 and connected to Bitlis Province. The district is located in a steep area to the south of Bitlis province and Lake Van. 90% of its lands are mountainous and there are no important streams except small streams. In the district, which has a typical continental climate, the average highest temperature is 25 degrees in summer and the lowest average temperature is around -15 degrees in winter. Although the forest area is higher than the central district of Bitlis and other districts, it is less than the forest areas in the country.
