Kangal

Kangal is a district of Sivas province. It is bordered by the Central, Hafik, Zara, Ulaş districts of Sivas in the north, Gürün and Malatya's Kuluncak and Hekimhan districts in the south, Divriği in the east, Altınyayla in the west and Pınarbaşı in Kayseri.

Its name in ancient times was Arangas or Aranga. Kangal is a region where settlement has existed since ancient times. In Karaseki, Akçakale Village, “Hittite City” ruins and settlements were identified. Many finds from the early ages are exhibited in various museums: The Late Hittite Period “Door Lion” sculpture found in the region of Havuz Town, Karaseki is in the Ankara Anatolian Civilizations Museum. A golden signet ring with hieroglyphic inscriptions, also belonging to the Hittite Period, found in Yarhisar Tumulus, is exhibited in the Sivas Museums Directorate.
