Karakoyunlu

Karakoyunlu, which is a district of Iğdır province in the Eastern Anatolia Region, is surrounded by the district of December in the east, Armenia in the north, Iğdır Center in the west, and the slopes of the Great Ararat Mountain facing Iğdır in the south. The territory of the district consists of extensions of Mount Ararat, stony and rocky elevations called Kire, and Korhan Plateau at the foot of Mount Ararat. The plains are covered with the lava and tuff basalts of Mount Ararat and covered with alluvium carried by the Aras River. The plains in the middle of the Iğdır Plain range between 850–800 m. The Aras River originating from the Bingöl Mountains and the Karasu Stream originating from Bulakbaşı and İslamköy irrigate the lands of the district. Karakoyunlu district is 15 km away from Iğdır city center. Its area is 194 km² and its total population is 14,597. It has 2 neighborhoods, Fatih and Ergenekon. It also has 14 villages.
