Karasu
Karasu is a district of Sakarya in the Marmara Region, surrounded by Kocaali district in the east, Hendek district in the south, Ferizli district in the southwest, Kaynarca district in the west and the Black Sea in the north. Located in the north of Sakarya, where the Marmara Region meets the Western Black Sea Region, the lands of the district are composed of slightly undulating low areas. There are areas rising with gentle slopes behind the plains on the Black Sea coast, and undulating plains to the south of these areas. However, in a few years, a breakwater was built in some of the coastal sections, and the current was partially blocked.
In Karasu, where the Black Sea climate prevails in Turkey, winters are not very cold, summers are not excessively hot, and all seasons are rainy. Snowfalls are few days, they do not stay on the ground much. Annual precipitation average is 1200 mm.
The economy of the district is based on agriculture, tourism and fishing. Hazelnut, corn and wheat are the leading agricultural products grown. Animal production is the second source of income in the district. In addition, the Sakarya mouth near the city is a natural harbor for fishing boats and there are also small scale boat building sites. Blackwater fishermen generally hunt clams, sea snails, bonito, bluefish, red mullet, tabby, whiting, horse mackerel, turbot, mullet, shad, shark and stingray. 2.000 tons (2003) of seafood are caught annually by 143 boats. Since there was no port until recently, the mouth of the Sakarya River (Yeni Mahalle) is used as a place of refuge. Since there is no storage facility, the fish that comes out in the morning is sold without waiting. Copper, lead, zinc occurrences in the north of Çam Mountain and titanium mines in the sand dunes on the İhsaniye coast were detected by MTA in the district borders.
On April 11, 2015, it was announced by the Minister of Science, Industry and Technology that Karasu Automotive Specialized Industrial Zone would be established between Denizköy and İhsaniye villages, and the decision was published in the official newspaper on the same day. By Minister Fikri Işık; It has been announced that in the industrial area to be established on approximately 222 hectares, priority will be given to companies that will work on motors and electric-hybrid vehicles, employment will be provided for 7-8 thousand people, and an investment of 1.5-2 billion dollars is expected.
