Melikgazi

Melikgazi is the central district of Kayseri province. It is the largest district of Kayseri with a population of nearly 600,000. It is the center of the city where important cultural, industrial and commercial activities took place throughout history. It covers the part up to the Erciyes slopes where the modern construction is located. Ottoman chief architect Mimar Sinan was born in Ağırnas Village of Kayseri. This village is currently the Ağırnas District of Melikgazi. In Melikgazi, there are the city's castle, which was built during the Byzantine period and expanded by the Seljuks, the Seljuk Hatun Complex from the 13th century, mosques, madrasah and baths, a clock tower and an underground city.
