Niksar

Niksar is a district of Tokat province and a settlement that is the center of this district. It has been a municipal organization since 1891. During the Pontus Kingdom, which was founded with the end of the Persian Empire, Niksar, which was called Caberia, was built in the cottage areas, many temples, palaces and settlements were built. The third of the Mithridatis Wars, which took place between the Romans and the Pontus in 72 BC, was held in Niksar and the city was dominated by the Romans. The Romans named the city Neocaesarea, and the name Neocaesarea turned into Niksar over time.

With the division of the Roman Empire into two AD in 395 AD, Niksar entered the Byzantine sovereignty. In the 11th century, the Turks' raids to Anatolia was conquered by Afşin Bey, one of the commanders of Alp Arslan in 1067, but in 1068, he was re -received by Byzantium. Niksar, who was conquered by Artuk Bey after the Battle of Malazgirt Square, came back in 1073. Melik Ahmed Gazi, the founder of the Danişmendli State, the real conqueror of Niksar, was Melik Ahmed Gazi. After the conquest, Danişmend Gazi chose Niksar as a base and the capital of this state in the fight against the Coast Greeks. During this period, Niksar became a cultural center of science and cultural. In 1175, II. Niksar joined the Seljuk lands during the time of Kılıçaslan, with the invasion of the Mongol invasion in 1341, the Eretna State first came under the domination of the Principality of the Tacettinogullari Principality and became the center of this principality.
