Odunpazarı

Odunpazarı is a district of Eskişehir. It is the first settlement of the city. It is located in the city center of Eskişehir and has a higher elevation compared to other districts. According to a rumor, the first people who thought of settling in Eskişehir hung a sheep liver in the region where Odunpazarı and the current Porsuk Stream are located. Whichever lasts longer, they will choose it as a residential area. The liver hanged in Odunpazarı deteriorates later and the first settlement occurs here. The historical city center of Odunpazarı was included in the World Heritage Tentative List by UNESCO in 2012. In 2019, the Odunpazarı Modern Museum, designed by Japanese architect Kengo Kuma, was opened. In addition, preparations have begun for the first "Cat Museum" to be established in Turkey. There are historical buildings and complexes within the boundaries of the district. Some of these buildings are Atatürk High School, Kurşunlu Complex, Yeşilefendi Ottoman House Museum, Tayfun Talipoğlu Typewriter Museum, Atatürk Museum and Odunpazarı Modern Museum.
