Otlukbeli

Otlukbeli district is located between the provinces of Bayburt and Erzincan. The known history of Otlukbeli begins around 2000 BC. In those years, while Hurrians dominated Erzincan and its region, later on, as they shifted their sovereignty to the south, Ümtizilis and Alkuşis dominated this region. The region remained within the borders of the Urartian State in 900 BC, and later on, with the collapse of the Urartu State in 600 BC, it remained under the rule of the Scythians for 30 years. After the Scythians, the Medes and the Persians ruled the region for 200 years, starting from 550 BC. Alexander began to rule the region after Alexander defeated the Persians in 334 BC. Since 515 BC, the Sabars raided the region and occupied the region as far as Ankara. Until the 7th century, it is among the records that Erzincan and its region were sometimes ruled by Byzantium and sometimes by the Sassanids. In 636, Turkish tribes who flocked to Eastern Anatolia from the Caucasus seized the region and dominated the region for more than three and a half centuries; however, they could not form a well-established structure as they were frequently exposed to Arab raids.
