Pamukova

It is located in the east of the Marmara Region, in the south of Sakarya province. Geyve in the east, Kocaeli in the west, Sapanca and the central district Adapazarı in the north, Osmaneli and Gölpazarı districts of Bilecik province in the south. Nearly all of the district's population consists of Greengrocers and Balkan immigrants. It is also seen that the Yoruks and Meskhetian Turks who migrated from Karabakh and Kars lived in the villages.

Pamukova Plain; extends in an east-west direction. E-W length is 28 km, N-S length is 6 km. Its area is 170 km². The plain is surrounded by the Taraklı-Karagöl Plateau from the south and the Samanlı Mountains from the north. The Sakarya River passes through the middle of the plain, which is 80 m high from the sea. D 650 highway stretching between Karasu and Antalya passes through the plain.

There are mounds from prehistoric times around Pamukova. These indicate that the region has been inhabited since the Neolithic and Chalcolithic Ages. It was known under the rule of Bithynia in the 4th century BC and with the name of Tataion (Totaion). Sakarya region, which is within the borders of the Byzantine Optimation Theme, has been invaded by Arabs from time to time. Although Artuk Bey from the Seljuks defeated the Byzantines here at the end of the 11th century, the region passed into the hands of the Seljuks, but in 1072, the Byzantines again dominated the region. After this, it came under the rule of the Crusaders, Danishmends, Anatolian Seljuks and the Nicaia Empire, whose center was established in Iznik in 1097. It joined the Ottoman lands in 1312 during the time of Osman Gazi. While Pamukova, known as Akhisar, was a district of Kocaeli in the Ottoman period, it was turned into a subdivision of Geyve district in 1874. The municipal organization was established in 1946, and in 1987 it became a district of Sakarya.
