District / Pazarcık, Turkiye, Mediterrenian, Kahramanmaraş

Pazarcık

It is fixed by historical information that the region where the district is located is a very old settlement. In this regard, in 1958-1969 Prof. Dr. During the archaeological studies carried out by Kılıç Kökten, finds thought to belong to the early Paleolithic Age were found on the slopes of Sarıl and Ganidağı. The "Forty Caves" region, located 1 km northeast of the old city center, dates back to BC. It is accepted that it was an important settlement between 3500-3000 BC.

The area where today's Pazarcık (lower Pazarcık) is located was opened to settlement and the city was moved here because the railway passed through here and the government office was moved here during the Ottoman period. The main livelihoods of the district are animal husbandry and agriculture. It changed after the 1980s, especially due to the labor force going abroad.

Pazarcık, which was connected to Gaziantep in 1933, was connected to Kahramanmaraş again in 1941.

On February 6, 2023, a 7.8 magnitude earthquake occurred very close to the Pazarcık epicenter.
